I would stick to your original plan, but circling back to it after another season is perfectly viable. Your blog, your rules.
That being said, I try very hard to separate the work from the creator. In the case of Buffy, I feel that there are enough other talents involved that the Joss of it all doesn't really detract from the good aspects of the show.
